A painter in the beginning of Showa era, born in Tokyo. He learned collage of pieces of colored paper that looks like pointillism. After Second World War, he was called Japanese van Gogh and also “Hadaka no Taisho”. His exhibition was popular all over the country. He kept wandering from 1940.

A western style painter. Born in Kagoshima. He came up to Tokyo in 1872, and entered Nishogakusha, Tokyo Gaikokugo gakko(Tokyo University of Foreign Studies), and Kyoritsu gakko. He went to France to study law. After he went to France, he shifted to study western painting under Raphael Collin. His two paintings of Reading and Woman (in the kitchen) were accepted in the Salon. After he returned to Japan, he opened up a painting school with Kume Keiichiro who became acquainted in France. His nude woman paintings, which submitted to The National Industrial Exhibition, caused to controversy matter. He founded Hakuba-kai. A chair of Tokyo Fine Arts School and Tokyo Music School in Western painting major. The president of Kokumin Bijutsu Kyokai. A member of the House of Peers, and also a chief of the Imperial Art Academy.

A painter. Born in Gifu. He was the grand-son of Kawasaki Chitora. Given name; 隆一. He graduated from Tokyo National University of Fine arts and Music(Now:the Tokyo University of Arts). At first he learned Traditional Japanese genre painting(大和絵)from Chitora, later he studied under Kobori Tomoto. During the Second World War, he went to China as a painter attached to the army. After he returned to Japan, he organized "Kokushi-kai"(国士会) with Yamamoto Kyuji and, his son-in-law, Higashiyama Kaii. His style has been changed from his early days of Traditional Japanese genre painting(大和絵) to the style with rich humanity in, and furthermore he has attained to the realm of refined simplicity.
A counselor of "Nitten"(日展)*1. A honorary professor of Musashino Art University, also a professor of Tokyo National University of Fine arts and Music.
A winner of The Imperial Award in The Japan Art Academy.

Ishikawa Kangan
Career Outlines :
Born in 1890 at Tochigi Prefecture. Real name: Torahisa. Studied an oil painting at Taihei Oil Painting Association Research Institute, also studied the southern school chinese painting realistically, took an active part as a leader of New 'Southern school chinese painting, and late in his life he produced the work harmonized its decoration by introducing "rin-style" and so on. Died in 1936 at age of 46.
