A retainer of the domain of Satsuma and a politician during the Meiji Restoration. Born in Satsuma. Real name :隆永 and 隆盛. Nick names: 小吉,吉兵衛・, and 吉之助. He commanded the Saccho alliance, the restoration of Imperial rule, and the Boshin War as the leader of an anti-Shogunate army. After the Meiji Restoration he became a government adviser and he made his effort with the establishment of prefectures in place of feudal domains. Although, his Seikan-theory(征韓論)was opposed by Okubo Toshimichi, Iwakura Tomomi, and Kido Takayoshi, he returned to his home. Then, he triggered off the Seinan War by the recommendation of descendants of samurai, he committed suicide in Shiroyama the cause of lose the war.

Career Outlines :

Junichio was a novelist born in Tokyo. He graduated from Daiichi High School and later attended Tokyo University. Junichiro is most well known in the literary world after being discovered by Nagai Kafu. He moved to Kansai after the Great Tokyo earthquake and wrote some of the greatest Japanese novels. His piece Sasameyuki "a light fall of sno" is regarded as a modern equivalent to Genji Monogatari. Junichiro was presented an Order of Culture Merit. He died in 1965 at the age of 79.

A vassal and expert spearman of the Tokugawa Government last stage; Meiji era. Born at Edo. Younger brother of the Great master of spearmanship, Yamaoka Seizan. Given name: Masaaki, Pseudonym: Kanmou, Common name: Seiichi. He succeeded the Takahashi clan, and became an instructor of "Kobusho" at the age of 25. He was treated as a master-less samurai, but after the Battle of Toba and Fushimi, attended on guarding the life of Tokugawa Keiki (Shogun). Yamaoka Tesshu is the husband of his sister. One of the three - 'Shu' of the Tokugawa government last stage. Died in 1903 at the age 69.

Poet of Meiji, Taisho, and Showa. Real name: Shigeru. Born at Miyazaki Prefecture. Published the first issue of poetic magazine "Sosaku". As a poet he displayed characteristic in manifesting natural affection. During living a poor but honest life, he exploited poetical realm. Died in 1928 at the age 44.

A vassal and politician of the last stage of the Tokugawa Govenment - Meiji era. Born at Edo. Eldest son of "Hatamoto" (direct vassal of the Shogun) - Katsuzaemon Taro. First given name: Yoshikuni, later - Rintaro, and after the 'Ishin' (the Meiji Restoration) - Yasuyoshi. 'Kaishu' is his alias and was commonly called "Yasu Fusamori". He learnt Japanese swordsmanship from Shimada Kenzan, and also studied the Dutch language under Nagai Seigai to open its private school later. He served as magistrate of warships. he exerted himself in ' Taisei' restoration, and after the restoration become the Naval vice minister of the New government. A member of the House of councilors cum a Navy lord, and a Privy Council. One of the three - Shu of the last stage of the Tokugawa Government. Died in 1899 at age of 77.

Yamaoka Tesshu

A man-of-swordsmanship. Politician of Shogunate's and Meiji era. born at Edo. Given name: Koho. Common name:Tetsutaro. He became a pupil of of Chiba Shusaku to open "the mutoryu" later, also he learnt spearmanship from Yamaha Seizan, and married his sister, and succeeded the Yamaha clan. He took charge in maintaining public peace of Edo with his brother-in-law: Takahashi Deice and others. After resolution he filled various posts - councilors of Shizoka Prefecture Gondai and of Ibaragi Prefecture and so forth. One of the three - shu of the last stage of the Tokugawa Government. Died in 1888 at the age 53.
