Career Outlines :

1684~1768 A monk in the middle Edo period at the Rinzai Sect. Born in Suruga. His pre-name was 神機独妙, then later he became正宗国師. When he was fifteen, he was ordained at the local Zen temple, Shoin-ji, changed his name as Hakuin. He has visited to learn the teaches of 馬翁宗春(Bao Shochiku) at 瑞雲寺(Zuiun-ji) in Mimo, 逸禅(Itsuzen) at 正宗寺(Sosho-ji) in Iyo, 性徹(Shotetsu) at 英岩寺(Eigan-ji) in Eichigo, and others. In 1718 he became the chief monk at 妙心寺(Myoshin-ji). He brought up東嶺円慈(Torei Enji) and 遂翁元盧(Suio Genro). He was succeeded to revive the Rinzai Sect and tought ZEN to public.

Career Outlines :

Hakuseki was a Confucian scholar and politician during the beginning and middle of the Edo Period. His given name was Kinmi and his common name was Kankaiyu. He studied under Kinoshita Ju-an, and counseled Shoguns including Tokugawa. Hakuseki was a proficient writer of many books and was considered a prominent scholar. He died in 1726 at the age of 69.

A Confucianist of Edo. Given name: Choko. Pseudonym: Zenshindo. He studied Confucianism under Inoue Kinga, and opened its private school. He was a man of uncommon intelligence , and did well in prose and poetry, as well as in calligraphy. As a downtown Confucianism lecture without being a government server throughout his whole life, he lectured the messages to the downtowner, and he was under the eyes as the first leading man of the Five Fiends. Died in 9th year of Bunsei = 1826, at age of 75.
